English

In Ramayana (2026), Watcharaphand Yuvanavattana unfolds a pictorial space where figuration and dissolution coexist. Two stylized figures, reminiscent of classical Thai mural painting and theatrical iconography, emerge from a saturated red-pink field that oscillates between presence and erasure. Their serene, almost immutable expressions contrast with the fluid, unstable surface that surrounds them—suggesting an image that is both remembered and in the process of vanishing.

Rather than illustrating the Ramayana as narrative, the work operates as a mental residue of it: a fragment where cultural memory, myth, and personal imagination converge. The figures appear less as representations than as apparitions—images that hover between inner vision and material trace. Through layered textures and diffused contours, the artist destabilizes the boundary between the visible and the invisible, echoing the exhibition’s inquiry into how thought becomes image, and how image, in turn, becomes a mode of thinking.
