Project « la revue Persil, 2027 »

Siripoj Chamroenvidhya / Poète invité : Vahé Godel — une collaboration artistique depuis 2017

Introduction

In March 2018, during Écritures des ciels at the Maison de Rousseau et de la Littérature in Geneva, poet Alain Borer held and presented the leporello I had created in collaboration with Vahé Godel.
The image is a fragment taken from a film recorded by the MRL (La Maison Rousseau et Littérature) during the event. For me, it preserves a particularly precious moment: an artist’s book passing from the hands of its makers into those of another poet.
The leporello was born from a dialogue between photography, visual art and poetry—between my images and the words of Vahé Godel. Seeing Alain Borer unfold it before an audience gave this intimate collaboration another dimension. The book became an object of encounter: something simultaneously seen, read, handled and shared.
Looking back at this image today, I feel a particular sense of pride and gratitude. It represents something that has remained important throughout my work: the possibility that an image may call forth words, that words may open another image, and that the space between the two belongs neither entirely to poetry nor entirely to visual art.

Vahé Godel — A dialogue between image and word

I chose to invite Vahé Godel to accompany my work for Persil not only because of his poetry, but because a dialogue between his words and my images has been developing for many years.
This photograph takes me back to 2017. Vahé is signing Malalam, my first leporello and one of the first leporellos produced within CRAC. Looking at the image today, I realise that it already contains something essential to our collaboration: the poet is not standing outside the image commenting on it; his writing enters its space.
Since then, our exchanges have continued. Sometimes an image comes first and encounters a poem; at other times, words open another way of seeing an image. I have never wanted the poem to explain my work, nor the image to illustrate the poem. What interests me is precisely the distance that remains between them—a space where another meaning can appear.
Nearly ten years after Malalam, this conversation continues with PARENTHÈSES IV, and now toward our contribution to Persil in 2027.
Perhaps this continuity is what matters most to me: an image can wait for words, words can transform the way we look at an image, and something created years ago can unexpectedly return to the present.
This is why inviting Vahé feels less like beginning a new collaboration than continuing a conversation that has never really stopped.
