An International Contemporary Art Exhibition

Thailand – Switzerland

IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE is a bilateral contemporary art exhibition bringing together 22 artists—10 from Thailand and 12 from Switzerland—to explore the relationship between sensory perception and the mental image.

Presented at the National Gallery, Bangkok, in July 2027, the exhibition will feature approximately 60 artworks, including painting, drawing, photography, installation, video, sound, and performance.

Through diverse artistic practices, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how images emerge between perception, memory, imagination, and thought, opening a dialogue between Eastern and Western perspectives on the nature of seeing.

Between Seeing and Thinking

IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE is a bilateral artistic dialogue between Thailand and Switzerland, bringing together artists from two cultural contexts around a shared question: how are images formed between what we perceive in the world and what we construct within the mind?

More than a meeting of two national artistic scenes, the exhibition creates a space of exchange between different experiences, cultural memories, visual languages, and ways of seeing. Thai and Swiss artists encounter one another through their individual practices, allowing differences and affinities to coexist without seeking to reduce them to a single perspective.

At the heart of this dialogue lies a fundamental question:

How does thought become visible, and how does vision itself become a mode of thinking?

Through painting, drawing, photography, installation, video, sound, and performance, the artists explore the passage between Imago Sensibilis—the image emerging through sensation and perception—and Image Mentale—the image shaped internally through memory, imagination, thought, and lived experience.

Within this bilateral encounter, the relationship between inner and outer images also becomes a means of considering cultural exchange. Images, symbols, memories, and artistic traditions move between different contexts; they are displaced, reinterpreted, and transformed. Rather than defining what is specifically “Thai” or “Swiss,” the exhibition asks what can emerge when different cultural and artistic perspectives enter into dialogue.

The exhibition therefore develops as a constellation of individual positions connected across two cultures. Each artist contributes a distinct way of understanding perception, memory, materiality, and imagination, while the encounter between the works creates new correspondences that extend beyond geographical boundaries.

Ultimately, IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE proposes the bilateral exhibition itself as a space of perception and exchange: a place where one culture does not simply look at another, but where different ways of seeing can meet, question one another, and generate new meanings.

Here, images are not simply objects of vision, but events of encounter—between sensation and thought, inner and outer worlds, individual memory and collective experience, Thailand and Switzerland.

IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE est une exposition bilatérale d’art contemporain réunissant 22 artistes — 10 artistes thaïlandais et 12 artistes suisses — autour d’une réflexion sur les relations entre la perception sensible et l’image mentale.

Présentée à la Galerie nationale de Bangkok en juillet 2027, l’exposition rassemblera près de 60 œuvres, comprenant des peintures, dessins, photographies, installations, vidéos, œuvres sonores et performances.

À travers la diversité de leurs pratiques artistiques, les artistes invitent le visiteur à interroger la manière dont les images émergent entre perception, mémoire, imagination et pensée, ouvrant un dialogue entre les traditions artistiques orientales et occidentales autour de l’acte de voir.

IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE est un dialogue artistique bilatéral entre la Thaïlande et la Suisse, réunissant des artistes issus de deux contextes culturels autour d’une question commune : comment les images se forment-elles entre ce que nous percevons du monde et ce que nous construisons intérieurement ?

Plus qu’une rencontre entre deux scènes artistiques nationales, l’exposition crée un espace d’échange entre différentes expériences, mémoires culturelles, langues visuelles et manières de voir. Les artistes thaïlandais et suisses se rencontrent à travers leurs pratiques individuelles, permettant aux différences comme aux affinités de coexister sans chercher à les réduire à une perspective unique.

Au cœur de ce dialogue se trouve une question fondamentale :

Comment la pensée devient-elle visible, et comment la vision elle-même devient-elle une forme de pensée ?

À travers la peinture, le dessin, la photographie, l’installation, la vidéo, le son et la performance, les artistes explorent le passage entre Imago Sensibilis — l’image qui émerge de la sensation et de la perception — et Image Mentale — l’image qui se forme intérieurement à travers la mémoire, l’imagination, la pensée et l’expérience vécue.

Dans cette rencontre bilatérale, la relation entre images intérieures et extérieures devient également une manière d’interroger l’échange culturel. Images, symboles, mémoires et traditions artistiques circulent entre différents contextes ; ils se déplacent, se réinterprètent et se transforment. Plutôt que de chercher à définir ce qui serait spécifiquement « thaïlandais » ou « suisse », l’exposition interroge ce qui peut émerger lorsque différentes perspectives culturelles et artistiques entrent en dialogue.

L’exposition se développe ainsi comme une constellation de positions individuelles reliées à travers deux cultures. Chaque artiste apporte une manière singulière d’aborder la perception, la mémoire, la matérialité et l’imagination, tandis que la rencontre entre les œuvres fait apparaître de nouvelles correspondances au-delà des frontières géographiques.

En définitive, IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE envisage l’exposition bilatérale elle-même comme un espace de perception et d’échange : un lieu où une culture ne se contente pas de regarder l’autre, mais où différentes manières de voir peuvent se rencontrer, se questionner mutuellement et faire naître de nouvelles significations.

Ici, les images ne sont pas simplement des objets du regard, mais des événements de rencontre — entre sensation et pensée, monde intérieur et monde extérieur, mémoire individuelle et expérience collective, Thaïlande et Suisse.
