Within IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE, Kanyaratch Somton approaches samsara not as a religious illustration, but as an existential condition. Rather than representing the Buddhist cycle of birth, death, and rebirth literally, the work proposes an open visual field in which every material, gesture, and fragment becomes part of an endless process of transformation. In Buddhism, samsara is understood as the continual cycle of existence shaped by impermanence, attachment, and renewal.

Fragments of torn paper, scorched surfaces, woven ropes, suspended figures, and delicate butterflies coexist without hierarchy. Each element carries the memory of a previous state while anticipating another. The composition refuses linear narration, unfolding instead as a landscape of continual becoming, where beginnings and endings dissolve into one another.

At the level of Imago Sensibilis, the viewer first encounters the tactile qualities of the work—the rough fibers, burnt edges, fragile threads, and accumulated textures. These materials evoke the vulnerability of lived experience and the physical traces left by time.

Gradually, the work shifts toward Image Mentale, where the assemblage becomes a metaphor for inner consciousness. The rope no longer signifies only a path, but the invisible continuity linking existence, memory, and transformation. Butterflies suggest metamorphosis, while the suspended mannequin becomes an anonymous figure through which viewers may project their own journey.

Rather than offering answers, An Endless Journey invites contemplation. It understands the image not as a fixed representation but as an evolving process of perception—one that moves continuously between matter and spirit, sensation and reflection, presence and impermanence.

Dans IMAGO SENSIBILIS / IMAGE MENTALE, Kanyaratch Somton aborde le samsara non comme une illustration religieuse, mais comme une condition existentielle. L’œuvre ne représente pas littéralement le cycle bouddhique de la naissance, de la mort et de la renaissance ; elle ouvre un champ visuel où chaque matière, chaque geste et chaque fragment participent d’un processus continu de transformation. Dans la pensée bouddhique, le samsara désigne le cycle incessant de l’existence, marqué par l’impermanence, l’attachement et le renouveau.

Fragments de papier déchiré, surfaces brûlées, cordes tressées, figures suspendues et papillons délicats coexistent sans hiérarchie. Chaque élément conserve la mémoire d’un état antérieur tout en annonçant une métamorphose à venir. La composition refuse toute narration linéaire et se déploie comme un paysage du devenir, où commencement et fin se confondent.

Au niveau de l’Imago Sensibilis, le regard est d’abord attiré par la matérialité de l’œuvre : les fibres rugueuses, les bords calcinés, les fils fragiles et les textures accumulées témoignent de la vulnérabilité de l’existence et des traces laissées par le temps.

Peu à peu, l’œuvre bascule vers l’Image Mentale, où l’assemblage devient une métaphore de la conscience intérieure. La corde ne représente plus seulement un chemin, mais la continuité invisible reliant existence, mémoire et transformation. Les papillons évoquent la métamorphose, tandis que la silhouette suspendue devient une figure universelle dans laquelle chacun peut projeter son propre parcours.

An Endless Journey n’apporte pas de réponse définitive. Elle invite à la contemplation et considère l’image non comme une représentation figée, mais comme un processus vivant de perception, évoluant sans cesse entre matière et esprit, sensation et réflexion, présence et impermanence.
