Incorporating painting and sculpture, Häberli’s works, often produced using a combination of acrylic, graphite, and colour pencil on canvas, create hybrid forms that blur the boundaries between surface and structure. At the heart of her artistic inquiry is the composition and construction of landscapes which weave together architectural or geometric elements and natural references into abstract topographies that feel precise yet fluid. By juxtaposing opaque and transparent surfaces, and through experimenting with perspective, Häberli, in her own distinctive language, opens up a dialogue between contrasts – foreground and background, structure and openness, harmony and disruption. This investigation speaks to the concept of ‘genius loci’, the spirit or unique atmosphere of place, which she approaches as both a poetic and analytical concern.

Deeply engaged with questions of how humans shape and manipulate their environments, Häberli reflects on the ways we partition, define, and reconfigure spaces. Drawing on Georg Simmel’s reflections on the unity or wholeness of nature and Lucius Burckhardt’s theory of the ‘science of walking’ to discover new ways of seeing, our constructed environments, she suggests, are deeply connected to our origins and place of upbringing. Within this context, the works prompt viewers to re-examine the spaces they inhabit, encouraging them to shift observations, recognize the interplay between perception and experience, and understand the ways in which these spaces, in turn, shape us.
